Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and the RCP

This course covers some of the most common pediatric cardiac defects and their surgeries.  Each defect and surgery is covered based off information  important for any Respiratory Care Practiioner interested in such information and or is involved in the care and treatment of the pediatric cardiac patient.  Focus is on application of adequate and safe mechanical ventilation.   Nitric Oxide is introduced and discussed .  The viewer will also recieve information on understanding and controlling pulmonary and systemic vascular resistance.  Monitoring  of electrolyes and blood gasses are also covered.

  • Understand each of the anomalies pre and post surgery, specifically to the RCP's role in stabilization including, a) patient's ventilatory needs b) balance of pulmonary vascular versus systemic vascular resistance and c) the effective maintenance of appropriate arterial blood gases
